A setup that fits how your business runs
Restaurants need tip adjustment, split checks, and a POS that keeps tables turning during a busy dinner rush. Retail shops need inventory tracking, barcode scanning, and a clean way to handle returns and exchanges. Salons and spas need appointment booking, deposits for no-shows, and tips added at checkout. Service businesses often need invoicing, card-on-file billing, and a mobile reader for taking payment on site. Decide which of these you need before you pick equipment, so you are not paying for features you will not use or missing ones you will.
Your application documents ready ahead of time
A merchant account application generally asks for your registered business entity, your EIN from the IRS, a business bank account for deposits, and a government-issued ID for each owner. Having these in hand before you apply is the simplest way to avoid delays. Local business licenses and tax registrations depend on where you operate in Miami, so check with the city or Miami-Dade County office for what applies to your location and business type.
A plan for when the power or internet drops
Miami businesses deal with summer storms and hurricane season, and outages happen. Ask whether your terminal or POS can keep taking payments offline and sync later, whether it can run on a cellular connection as a backup, and how you will charge devices if power is out. Thinking about this before you open is much easier than figuring it out during a storm.
Pricing you can actually read
Card processing pricing can be hard to follow. With interchange-plus pricing, you pay the card networks' actual cost plus a fixed margin, so you can see what goes where. If you would rather eliminate processing cost, a cash discount program is available. If you are taking over an existing business or already have a processor, send us your most recent processing statement and we will show you, line by line, what you are paying and beat it, or tell you honestly that we cannot.
How it works
- Set up the business basics. Form your business entity, get your EIN, and open a business bank account. Check with the city or county about the licenses and registrations your Miami location needs. These steps can take anywhere from days to weeks depending on the agency, so start early.
- Talk through your setup with us. Tell us what kind of business you are opening, how you expect customers to pay, and what software you already use. We will help you choose terminals and POS hardware that fit, and walk you through pricing options. Qualifying merchants receive free terminals and POS hardware, no upfront cost.
- Apply for your merchant account. Submit your application with your entity details, EIN, bank account, and owner ID. Having everything ready at this stage keeps review moving. If anything else is needed, we will tell you plainly what and why.
- Install, test, and start taking payments. Once approved, most merchants are processing within 24 to 48 hours. Run a few test transactions, check that tips, refunds, and deposits work the way you expect, and train your staff before opening day.
Questions to ask a processor
How is your pricing structured, and can I see every charge?
We offer interchange-plus pricing, where you pay the card networks' actual cost plus a fixed margin. Whatever processor you consider, ask for a written breakdown of every charge so you know what to expect on your statement. If you want to eliminate processing cost, ask us about our cash discount program.
What contract am I signing, and what happens if I want to leave?
Our accounts are month-to-month, and you can cancel anytime with no fees. With any processor, read the agreement for the length of the term and any cancellation terms before you sign.
How long does it take to get set up?
Most merchants are processing within 24 to 48 hours of approval. The bigger variable is usually you having your entity, EIN, bank account, and ID ready, plus any local licenses, so start those steps well before your opening date.
Will the POS work with my other software?
Our ERP, CRM, and e-commerce integrations are included at no monthly fee with a TouchSuite merchant account. If you plan to sell online as well as in person, or you already use accounting or customer software, mention it early so your setup connects the pieces.
What equipment do I actually need?
It depends on your business. A restaurant may want a full POS with tableside or handheld devices, a retail shop may want a register with a scanner, a salon may want a countertop terminal plus booking software, and a mobile service business may only need a portable reader. Qualifying merchants receive free terminals and POS hardware, no upfront cost.
I bought an existing business that already takes cards. Should I keep the current processor?
Not necessarily. Send us the most recent processing statement and we will show you, line by line, what you are paying and beat it, or tell you honestly that we cannot. Either way, you will understand what you are paying.
