Setting up payments for your new Las Vegas business

Whether you are opening a restaurant, shop, salon, or service business in Las Vegas, here is what to plan for when it comes to taking cards and running a point-of-sale system, in the order most owners tackle it.

What to get right

Equipment that fits how you actually sell

Start with how customers pay you. Restaurants need tip adjustment, split checks, and a way to keep tables moving, often with handheld or pay-at-table devices. Retail shops need inventory tracking, barcode scanning, and a clean returns and exchange process. Salons and spas need appointment booking, deposits for no-shows, and tips assigned to the right stylist. Service businesses that work on-site need mobile card acceptance, invoicing, and stored cards for repeat clients. Las Vegas draws visitors from everywhere, so plan for contactless, mobile wallets, and cards issued outside the U.S. Qualifying merchants receive free terminals and POS hardware from TouchSuite, with no upfront cost.

Software that connects to the rest of your business

Your POS should not be an island. Think about whether you need online ordering or an online store, a customer list for loyalty and follow-ups, and a link to your accounting or inventory system. If you keep late hours, make sure reporting and end-of-day close work on your schedule, not a bank's. TouchSuite's ERP, CRM, and e-commerce integrations are included at no monthly fee with a TouchSuite merchant account.

Pricing you can read and check

Card processing pricing can be hard to follow. Ask for interchange-plus pricing, where you pay the card networks' actual cost plus a fixed margin, so you can see exactly what goes to the networks and what goes to the processor. If you would rather eliminate processing cost, TouchSuite also offers a cash discount program; check that any program you use is set up and disclosed properly for your business. If you are taking over an existing business, send us its most recent processing statement and we will show you, line by line, what you are paying and beat it, or tell you honestly that we cannot.

Terms that do not lock you in

A new business changes fast. Your volume, menu, or service mix in year two may look nothing like opening week. Look for an agreement you can leave if it stops working for you. TouchSuite accounts are month-to-month, cancel anytime, no fees.

How it works

  1. Get your business basics in place. Before applying for a merchant account, form your business entity, get your EIN from the IRS, and open a business bank account in the business name. You will also need licensing: Nevada requires a state business license, and your local license may come from the City of Las Vegas, Clark County, or another jurisdiction depending on your exact address. Check with the Nevada Secretary of State and your city or county licensing office for what applies to you and how long it takes.
  2. Talk through your setup and apply. Tell us what kind of business you are opening, how you expect customers to pay, and what software you already use or plan to use. Then complete the merchant application. Have ready your legal business name and entity details, EIN, business bank account and routing information, a government-issued ID for each owner, your business address, and a simple description of what you sell and roughly how much you expect to process.
  3. Approval, equipment, and setup. Once your application is reviewed and approved, we configure your terminals or POS for your business: menus or product catalog, tax settings, tipping, staff logins, and any integrations. Most merchants are processing within 24 to 48 hours of approval. Leave yourself some room before opening day, since licensing and bank account steps can take longer than the payments side.
  4. Test, train, and open. Run a few test transactions, including a refund and a tip adjustment if they apply to you. Walk your staff through opening and closing procedures, then confirm deposits are landing in your business bank account as expected. After you open, review your statements in the first few months so you understand what you are paying.

Questions to ask a processor

How is my pricing structured, and can I see the breakdown?

Ask any processor to explain exactly how you will be charged and to show you a sample statement. With interchange-plus pricing, you pay the card networks' actual cost plus a fixed margin, which makes it easier to see where your money goes. If a processor cannot explain its pricing in plain terms, take that as a warning sign.

What happens if I want to cancel?

Read the agreement before you sign and look for term length, automatic renewals, and any cancellation charges. TouchSuite accounts are month-to-month, cancel anytime, no fees.

Will the system handle the way my business works?

Be specific. A restaurant should ask about tips, split checks, and table management. A retailer should ask about inventory, barcodes, and returns. A salon should ask about appointments, deposits, and tip splits by staff. A mobile service business should ask about invoicing and taking payments on-site. Ask to see these features working, not just listed.

What does it cost to connect my other software?

Many owners find out after signing that integrations carry extra charges. Ask up front. With TouchSuite, ERP, CRM, and e-commerce integrations are included at no monthly fee with a merchant account.

How long until I can take payments, and when will deposits arrive?

Ask how long approval usually takes for your type of business and when funds reach your bank account after each day's sales. Most TouchSuite merchants are processing within 24 to 48 hours of approval. Your overall timeline will also depend on your licensing and bank account, so start those early.

Do I need equipment, and who owns it?

Ask what hardware you will receive and what your obligations are if you change providers. Qualifying TouchSuite merchants receive free terminals and POS hardware, with no upfront cost.
