EXCLUSIVE: Governor Scott to name teenage South Florida entrepreneur in State of the State Address
Governor Rick Scott is expected to tell the story of South Florida’s teenage entrepreneur Rachel Zietz in his State of the State Address on Tuesday.
Rachel Zietz, who founded Gladiator Lacross at 14, is on her way to Tallahassee today for the address, her father Sam Zietz told the South Florida Business Journal.
Rachel Zietz has been collecting awards, honors and newspaper articles at a rapid pace after the Business Journal first chronicled her success in February of last year. Zietz, who is in tenth grade at Pine Crest High School in Fort Lauderdale, received the governor’s Young Entrepreneur Award in September. Her company has racked up more than $1 million in revenue and is already on to some pretty big deals.
Sam Zietz said her company is about to reveal a branding agreement with a major Lacrosse star, which will be announced shortly.
Rachel Zietz comes from a family of entrepreneurs. Her brother Jordan is the founder of GameReef, a video game console and game rental business. Her father is founder of Boca Raton-based TouchSuite, which provides point of sale systems for vendors.
“You’re going to see her flying right by me,” Sam Zietz said.
